And the winner is … Lesley Flood!
Congratulations go to Les for winning the inaugural Sunflower Race. Les has led the pack since Stage 2 and held off late challenges from Barbara, Rob and Aimee to grab victory. Her sunflower reached a very impressive 203 cm in height – that’s a whopping 14 cm taller than the runner-up.
Les was presented with the Great Brighton Williams Sunflower Race Trophy and a voucher to spend on gardening items or plants. All participants received a packet of sweets to say thanks for the great effort everyone has made to make this competition a success.
Our sunflowers will live on!
The story does not end here though, as we will collect the seeds from all the sunflowers. Some seeds will be left out as food for the birds, some will be scattered in the BWP garden, and the remainder will be sown in the wildflower beds at Crossbow Park in Frampton Cotterell, ready for next year’s colour show.
Well done everyone and thanks for all your enthusiasm.
